We Miss You Wednesday: Marvin Sease

Posted by musicaddikts On February - 9 - 2011

Once again, the ADDIKTS have to ‘big up’ Spinning Soul.com for word about the passing of Marvin Sease. Sease passed away yesterday, just shy of his Medicare-eligible 65th birthday. He was a blues festival and club favorite, maintaining a ‘cult-like’ following, especially after the release of his song, ‘Candy Licker‘ – suggestive, yes, we know.

The cause of Sease’s death is still unknown, but today we remember him and his music.  For more about Sease, check out our SpinningSoul.com.

We Miss You Wednesday: Gladys Horton (of the Marvelettes)

Posted by musicaddikts On February - 2 - 2011

Gladys Horton, co-founder of the Marvelettes, passed away last week. Shout out to our Spinning Soul family for being the first to let us know.  Gladys became the lead singer of the group best known for the hit, ‘Mr. Postman.’  Horton and the Marvelettes were part of the Motown family and one of the first acts on the label.  Gladys died in peacefully in a nursing facility, where she had been since her stroke in 2009.  Today, we remember Gladys Horton and the Marvelettes.

We Miss You Wednesday: Frankie Gaye

Posted by musicaddikts On January - 26 - 2011

Marvin Gaye wasn’t the only talented sibling in the Gaye family. Little known Frankie was a singer and Marvin’s younger brother.  Frankie’s career started with composing music and helping his older brother with background vocals. Their looks and voices were so similar, that Marvin fooled fans during a tour by having Frankie come on stage as him. On his own, Frankie released two singles, ‘Extraordinary Girl,’ in ’89 and ‘My Brother,’ in ’90. A full album by the same name followed the same year.  In 2001, Frankie died of heart attack complications never releasing his autobiography detailing his life and relationship with his famous brother.  He never got the same shine as Marvin, so we remember him today.  The ADDIKTS miss you Frankie!

We Miss You Wednesday: Ol’ Dirty (you know who)

Posted by musicaddikts On January - 19 - 2011

He may have been ‘Dirty’, but we loved him anyway. Ol’ Dirty Bastard, one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, passed in 2004 of an accidental drug overdose. The Wu-Tang Clan gave Atlanta a much needed dose of classic hip-hop right before the holidays. And you can be sure Ol’ Dirty was there in spirit.  We’ll never forget his wild antics and over the top personality. Today we remember, Russell Tyrone Jones a.k.a ODB.
