I often wondered why it is that some artists “made it” while others struggle to be discovered. Maybe I should say recognized because making it is different for everyone. One singer that I’ve often wondered this very thing about was Corey Latif Williams, known to most as simply Latif. I first learned of Latif while scouring the net for music by Ryan Leslie. R. Les has produced quite a few songs for Latif and after seeing his name appear several times in my search I decided to take a listen. My ears have been thanking me ever since. I came to learn later that Latif was also a talented writer, with writing credits for songs like “I Love You” by Cheri Dennis and “Teach Me” by Musiq Soulchild. Of course this only boosted my respect for him as an artist. Although previously signed to Universal Motown I don’t think Latif is currently attached to a label.
